At the webpage of Trøndelag Theatre the following, among other things, is written about Moby Dick:
"Moby Dick (1851) is one of the great fiascos of literary history. Herman Melville's gigantic novel was badly reviewed, it sold nothing, and was the beginning of the end of Melville's short career as a writer; after a few years he stopped publishing books and took a job as a customs inspector. Melville himself called Moby Dick an evil book. Today it is regarded as a classic and one of the great American novels.
Captain Akab obsessively hunts Moby Dick, the white whale that once bit his legs and genitals off. Akab's hatred infects the rest of the crew of the whaling boat Pequod. Soon every person's destiny is determined by the whale, which according to myth is ever-present and immortal, and which carries the 'colourless all-colour of atheism'. The boat goes towards doom, towards the meeting with the white whale.
Moby Dick is a grandioso, abundant work, filled with symbolism, endless digressions, lexical narratives, horror and superstition.
Countless grand-scale ambitious theatre versions, movies, operas and even musicals have been made from Melville's novel - made up of an ocean of actors and gigantic sea animals. Trøndelag Theatre's version is ambitious in another manner, as only four performers are to guide us through the demanding journey of Pequod's."
Kine Bendixen was meant to act in the production, but was replaced by Kenneth Homstad shortly before the opening, due to illness.
