"Jeg kommer tilbake i kveld is the Southern Norwegian writer Gaute Heivoll's debut as a playwright. The play builds on and goes further from Heivoll's critically acclaimed novel The Sky Archive (2008).
January 10 1945 Louis Hogganvik was arrested by Gestapo, brought to 'The Archive' in Kristiansand and tortured. After the ninth day in capture Hogganvik committed suicide, and was brought to and dumped outside of Oksøy lighthouse to hide the mistreatment.
Gaute Heivoll fictionalises on, and in his fiction the following happens:
Eight years after World War II Theodora, Louis Hogganvik's widow, travels to Germany to confront her husband's torturer and executioner, SS-Hauptsturmführer Rudolf Kerner. Theodora meets his wife and daughter.
Jeg kommer tilbake i kveld is about guilt, punishment and forgiveness. About choices and dignity, the necessity of truth, and the impossibility of oblivion.
Or: Is truth a necessary foundation for human co-existence? How necessary is truth to be able to reconcile, with one's own history or with each other? To which degree are we able to handle truth?"
