The Dahmer Syndrome

At the webpage of Black Box Teater the following, among other things, is written about The Dahmer Syndrome by Øyvind Johansen:

"In 1991 Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested and accused of murder. In his apartment the police found rotted meat and dozens of Polaroid photos Dahmer had taken of his victims as they were bound and butchered. In his freezer they found body parts neatly wrapped in plastic bags.

In this production director Øystein Johansen dissects the mechanisms of cruelty, while examining the relationship between sexuality and perversion. Onstage five men are captured in a box of glass. They have been stored like the leaves of a book, and been locked inside like butterflies in a case. Through this diorama Dahmer's universe unfolds.

The Dahmer Syndrome is Øystein Johansen's second production in which he confronts Jeffrey Dahmer's perverted logic. Dahmer and other 'lone wolves' work as prisms to examination of the themes obsession and isolation, and how these two reinforce one another.

A Thing of Beauty had its premiere at Black Box Teater the autumn of 2013 and won Natt & Dag's Oslo award for best performing arts."
