The Meteor festival is among the best known festivals of performing arts in Norway. The festival manifesto states that Meteor should explore the possibilities of theatre, and at the same time display a clear interest in, and an attitude towards the entire field of contemporary art. Meteor is a meeting place for Norwegian and international artists, as well as international theatre managers, producers and members of the press. This provides an opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, but also for promotion of Norwegian contemporary theatre and its essential figures from all over the country.
At Meteor 2007, we will emphasize the festival's potential as an arena for competence and network building – in addition to maintaining and further developing a strong artistic program. This year, the traditional seminar program will be revitalized by increased emphasis on professional skill, artist participation and informal network building.
The Satellite1-program is built upon the following main components:
- a theoretical approach to the field of performing arts, based on practical work
- involvement of the dramatic arts society: speed dating, videoteque
- practical networking: debates.
Two European capacities have been invited to Bergen to provide contributions to the debates. Above all, they all have extensive theoretical knowledge and practice within several fields of art. They will present texts of both political and polemical nature, and will refer to different practices and results, as well as confronting us with future challenges within the field of dramatic arts. This is an open event.
