Sir Global Rights and His Wireless Crew
Sir Global Rights and his Wireless Crew by Leo Preston (Norway):
"Burn your travel-guide, leave your maps and phrase books behind and join Sir Global's Wireless Crew on an adventure through global society", Leo Preston encourages.
This is Leo Preston’s third full-length theatre production, and the first one in which he has worked with other performers than himself. Sir Global Rights and his Wireless Crew is a rhythmic combination of various elements of video, text, and music, which are created over a long period of research around a central theme. Among the effects are the humorous attitude of Preston’s and his apparent naivety, door-openers he also used in his former productions.

Leo Preston finds his data in travels and field studies and puts an intricate mix of effects together. In Sir Global Rights and his Wireless Crew as in his former works he questions the classical perceptions of the world we live in. Where he left the audience at the last crossroads, with a gang from Tarifa, Spain, we are now met by a cast of which two have been recruited in Western Africa.
The participators in Sir Global Rights and his Wireless Crew by Leo Preston are Abdulaye Sidibe, a young travel guide from Mali, his wife Safiatou Sangaré plus Veronica Thorseth and naturally Leo Preston.
The following is from the program text of BIT Teatergarasjen regarding Sir Global Rights and his Wireless Crew:
"In this age of rational statistics and information technology, we need to search hard for those magical experiences. Abdulaye Sidibe can take you to all manner of exotic Malian tourist attractions, but what he would really like is just to share something personal, to take you where no tourist has been before. How big are the holes in your net of knowledge? How fast do you drive down the information superhighway?
This project was conceived after attending a seminar called Fadaiat in Tarifa, Spain, based around themes of freedom of movement. Since then Leo Preston has been Artist in Residence at Bajidala centre of contemporary art in Segou, Mali, during which time he became acquainted with Abdulaye Sidibe and his wife Safiatou Sangaré amongst other things, whilst developing material for this show. The process of getting visas to Norway for Sidibe and Sangaré has been an attest to the extreme bias in the direction of movement between the western world and the developing world. The application was rejected twice after many months of work to fulfil the necessary requirements."
