"A couple of parents loses their small son in a tragic accident. She enters deep mourning and is hospitalised in a psychiatric hospital. He is a therapist, and chooses, despite strong warnings against it, to take his wife home to treat her. He tries to stay rational in relation to her pattern of reaction, but the force of her mourning and psychosis is far stronger than he had ever dreamt of.

Lars von Trier's Antichrist is a work sated with references, to literature, art, philosophy, history, culture and science. When The Norwegian Theatre now chooses to create theatre out of Lars von Trier's film drama it is important to specify that the stage version is an independent artistic interpretation of Lars von Trier's movie script - in other words, the text. This is not a staging of the movie. Von Trier often experiments with narrative techniques and is provocative, unconventional and unafraid in his choice of themes and angles. The movie Antichrist contains a lot of violence, sex and horror effects. Naturally, this is hard to recreate onstage, and our version emphasise the inner dialogue and conflicts within characters more."
