At the webpage of The Norwegian Theatre the following, among other things, was written about Phaedra's Love:

"While Theseus is in the war, gathering honours, his queen, Phaedra, falls in love with her stepson Hippolytus. She drowns him with declarations of love, but is rejected. She takes revenge. When Theseus, who was believed to be dead, returns his son is accused of having attempted to seduce Phaedra. Theseus sends his own son to death.

The English playwright Sarah Kane also goes back to the old legend. Her version, Phaedra's Love, is more about modern neuroses than the inappropriate, more about longing for death than love. With her distinct mix of brutality and tenderness, and the pitch-dark future visions practically without light, Sarah Kane places the old classic Phaedra among the most important works in modern performing arts. In the leading roles we meet Britt Langlie, Nicolai Cleve Broch and Ane Dahl Torp."
