The newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes that the play was written on commission from Rogaland Theatre and Stavanger 2000, who asked Fosse to write a piece based on the Ten Commandments.

"The sixth [commandment] is central to Winter, to be staged at the Intimscene", the newspaper wrote.

The sixth commandment states: "Thou shalt not commit adultery".

- It is about two persons from two very different environments. Their meeting and relationship describe how the small coincidences of life can have great consequences, for us and others. Some people call it fate, Marit Grønhaug said to Stavanger Aftenblad before the opening.
