At the webpage of The Norwegian Theatre the following, among other things, is written about Fear Eats the Soul:
"A middle-aged housekeeper randomly enters one of the immigrant cafés in the city. While drinking a glass of Coke she is unexpectedly asked to dance by a dark-skinned young man. Like that starts the moving, provocative, funny and tragic story about an unusual love affair.
(...)
- But it is important to add that Fear Eats the Soul is not only about a conflicted meeting between a native and an immigrant, Jorunn says, it is as much about prejudice in general, for instance against an elderly woman connected to a young man. I love this woman. She is brave and sassy. After a tiresome life and having worked only for others, her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her neighbours and so on, she wants to let loose and live a life that is hers and hers alone. I think this is the first time she sets foot in a café, treating herself to a Coke."
