Bessie - a bluesical was a monodrama about the queen of blues, Bessie Smith. After the opening in the nightclub Smuget (Oslo), the production was performed for two weeks at the same venue.

Bessie - a bluesical by Ellen Foyn Bruun and Bente Kahan toured with Concerts Norway in 1987 and was performed as a visiting performance during Edinburgh Jazz Festival the same year. Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation made its own TV version of the production, broadcast in 1988.
