At the webpage of Grenland Dansekompani the following, among other things, is written about Korverket* (The Choir Work):
"A two-sided story - outside and inside
A choir work consists of singers, a conductor and a score. The choir is in itself a live organism, with a story to tell, but also with an internal culture, rules and norms.
What happens when the choir work is transformed?
What happens when the expression is changed, from audial to visual, what happens with the image, the expression, and the recipients; the audience? Is there a difference to song and dance? Or can one tell the same story, just translated from one language to the other?
In the composition there are musical principles making up the characteristics of the piece: contrast, movement, balance and unity. Eventually the inner story is revealed, too, the tribal culture within the choir. As a society, with a common identity, common rituals, common goals and a mutual enemy. We reveal a story about roles, accept, community, inner and outer enemy.
On our roles and patterns
A tribal culture reflecting a society culture in which everything is reduced to the individual's meeting with other individuals. A society in which social rank outside of the choir is of no value, only the voice is of significance."
