In Pieces is a production by Fumiyo Ikeda and Tim Etchells (Belgium/England). In Pieces is the result of a collaboration project between the dancer and choreographer Fumiya Ikeda and the writer and director Tim Etchells.

In Pieces by Fumiyo Ikeda and Tim Etchells is a performance combining movement, dance, written text and improvised speech in an exploration on how memory and the processes of remembering and forgetting operate
In Prague Tim Etchells came over several quotes from Kafka, among them one telling us only to read books that disturb us. It ends like this: "a book should be an axe to break the frozen sea inside us" (letter for Oskar Pollak, January 27 1904).
Etchells gave some of the words to the dancer Ikeda for her to translate them into movement: axe, break, frozen, sea and inside.
This is just one of the stories behind Fumiyo Ikeda's solo. In Pieces illuminates how the fragments of memory are manifested in language and articulated by the body.
"In movement and language I love what Fumiyo does - the way she undoes words, blurs actions. I love the way she can shift her presence in movement, fading in the space of one second from something taut, hard and harsh to something soft, almost dissolving", Tim Etchells has said.
Fumiyo Ikeda has danced for Rosas since 1983. Tim Etchells is writer and director in Forced Entertainment. Both companies have gained international recognition for their performances and have been central driving forces in contemporary dance and theatre for the past 20 years.
