Chasing the Phoenix is a combination of the historical with the mythical, modern proportions and traditional symbols. The performance touches some eternal issues like loneliness, xenophobia, hatred and unconditional love, plus what is hidden behind them: The planet Mercury. A blazing desert. The walls of Jerusalem. An unexpected trip through the varied perspectives of time and place. A red wing which is never caught. There is no one to catch it and which bird does it belong to?
Chasing the Phoenix by Torgrim Mellum Stene was supported by the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).
