Norge - Brasil* (Norway - Brazil) (2012) was a football opera produced by The Norwegian Theatre.
Norge - Brasil was nominated for the Hedda Awards 2012 in the category of best production of the year.

"June 23 1998 Norway won over Brazil during the World Championship in football (soccer), and Norway went bananas. People danced in the street. Arne Scheie (a famous football commenter, Sceneweb's comment) did not know what to say. Ordinary people bathed in fountains and sung all night. Strangers hugged each other in Karl Johan (the main street of Oslo, Sceneweb's comment). Kjetil Rekdal (a Norwegian footballer, Sceneweb's comment) showed his emotions. Everything was possible this evening.
And now you can finally experience this evening again. As an opera. That is the least one could demand when retelling the story of the greatest sports accomplishment in Norwegian history."

"Norge - Brasil, en fotballopera* (Norway - Brazil, a football opera) is joking with both the football clichés and the opera clichés, and provides swooping tackles, arias, overdone emotions, offside, love, goals and penalties in a production where Kjetil Rekdal and Tore Andre Flo burst into song and tell us how they really feel.
We meet all the heroes from 1998. Flo. Myggen. Flo. Drillo. Flo. We also get to hear the stories of some of those watching the game, and who got their lives changed forever this historical night.
Norge - Brasil is an opera even football fans can enjoy. And a football game even opera fans can enjoy. And it is even a comedy people not liking opera nor football can enjoy. And, not least, with this production you finally get the chance to see an international game you know in advance that Norway will win."

"Football art: When football meets opera in Norge - Brasil* (Norway-Brazil), The Norwegian Theatre has a winner. (...) Norge - Brasil helps itself as freely from the football dramaturgy as the opera dramaturgy. The Norwegian Theatre calls it an opera - a football opera. We can just as well call it an opera parody - and define the term as a parody in the form of an opera, as well as a parody on opera. (...) The dance lifts the over-all impression. (...) In text repetition is the most important scoring strategy of Are Kalvø. Faithful to the opera expression with its recurring melodic lines, the text's melodic lines are repeated too - jokes and signature phrases which are not really jokes, but which become so, simply because of the repetition."
