Drømmen* (The Dream)
Drømmen* (The Dream) (2010) was a theater production by De Utvalgte. The action plays out in Ellas’s idyllic summer house by the fiord. Ella is an aging woman who has during the summer initiated a close friendship with the far younger man Torbjørn, who lives in a camper in an overgrown tennis court nearby. They have many interests in common and enjoy each other’s company, though both have an idea about the other’s hidden motive. Politeness leads them into the committing labyrinth of double communication.
*Not yet translated into English. The title within parentheses is the Norwegian title's literal meaning.

Text excerpt from Drømmen* (The Dream) by De Utvalgte (translated by Sceneweb’s Lillian Bikset): «Hahaha. The dream was… and I have been thinking about this for ten years or so. The thing about having a house of my own, mine, and to have trees it can rain on, and the sun can shine on, and the snow fall on… being a world of its own, like! To sort of own the nature and the view… and a room where I can store my books and a kitchen where I can make my food and such… Right?»
With the production Drømmen De Utvalgte continues to explore its own genre of documentary theatre and aesthetic. As in the productions Bang-Bang Club and Jimmy Young the divide between fiction and reality is blurred by the use of a multi-media expression.
De Utvalgte is a theatre company working mainly with effects such as video, documentary material, text and music. Throughout the last fifteen years they have displayed a clear desire to seek new expression and new content in performing arts.
Drømmen by De Utvalgte was supported by Arts Council Norway, the Audio Visual Fund and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).
