Ricky and Ronny and Hundred Stars
A Sado-Country Opera
Ricky and Ronny and Hundred Stars - a sado-country opera by MaisonDahlBonnema / Needcompany. The duo Hans Petter Dahl and Anneke Bonnema visited Meteor in 2007 with The Ballad of Ricky and Ronny - a pop opera. The spring of 2010 they returned with Ricky and Ronny and Hundred Stars -a sado-country opera, a new genre-examining opera, inspired by our time’s sadistic urge for telling suffering stories. The productions were also performed in Trondheim, the latter the autumn of 2010.

In Ricky and Ronny and Hundred Stars - a sado-country opera by MaisonDahlBonnema/Needcompany Ricky and Ronny are accompanied by Hundred Stars. All of them suffer from so-called post traumatic stress. Hundred Stars personify the eternal partykiller: The Salvation Army officer, hypersensitive for all the damage and loss of honour the smallest touch can lead to. In her company Ricky and Ronny stumble over a pornographic universe.
The setting is Paris. The emphasis is on the sacrifice, the suffering and the duty of the moral world, in which the best intentions turn 180 degrees to be transformed into its opposition. Evil seems to be the shocking consequence of good deeds. It seems that the charlatans are those who have the best options to survive. With life passing by as in a near-death experience, Ricky and Ronny shims everyday experiences as if they were high on drugs. Do we suffer enough to be able to speak about this? Should we at all be allowed to watch?
Our present is drawn towards a sadist system by telling stories of suffering – not without a certain element of enjoyment – our inseparable partner in this sublimate world. The driving force in the opera is sadness and the joy one gets from feeling this sadness and singing about it. About a world filled with trivial worries and moral dilemmas and the eternal wish to do something good. Dream on.

«Hans Petter Dahl and Anneke Bonnema skate on the boundary between the ordinary and the absurd, and between love and alienation. The intimacy expressed in their presence on stage is a sample of vulnerability that is only very rarely to be found in the theatre»
