Borrowed landscape

Borrowed landscape by Heine Røsdal Avdal & Yukiko Shinozaki is produced and presented in different societies and public spaces in the time period of 2011–2013, with varying choice of formats.

Borrowed landscape is a series of site-specific performances, seeking to infiltrate different terrains and layers of society with artistic work.

Codes and conventions in different areas are examined and discussed. Every new place generates certain expectations and prejudices on how to behave in specific spaces.

More

Borrowed landscape by Heine Røsdal Avdal & Yukiko Shinozaki is inspired by and referring to the Japanese term shakkei.

The term describes a specific Japanese gardening technique, in which the view outside the garden is incorporated as an important part of the garden. The key to this technique is finding the right balance. How much of the view can you borrow before it becomes overwhelming?

Borrowed landscape by Heine Røsdal Avdal & Yukiko Shinozaki was supported by Vlaamse Gemeenschap, Art Commission Yokohama, Arts Council Norway, The Audio Visual Fund, The Fund for Performing Artists and The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (travel grant/performing arts).
