In the spring program of BIT Teatergarasjen 2000 the following is written about medEia by Dood Paard:
"With emphasis on text and acting style, in BIT Teatergarasjen this time they do examine the myth of Medea in a radical adaption based on texts from Euripides to Heiner Müller. The text for medEia is by Oscar van Woensel, who also shares the responsibility for the acting, direction, stage design and dramaturgy with Kuno Bakker and Manja Topper.
The bare, minimalist theatrical expression removes all thematic layers, from desire, jealousy and barbarianism to Medea as a mother, princess and murderess. The drama is about love and the consequences growing from it. Dood Paard gives it footing in all ages, and states a contemporary relevance underlining that this is about us all. Use of rapidly changing slides between the four performers accentuates this.
medEia is produced with support from Amsterdam Arts Council. The Bergen performances are presented with support from Norwegian Culture Fund's system for visiting performances and by Fonds for Het Podiumskunst (Holland).
