In the spring program of BIT Teatergarasjen 2001 the following is written about Breath by Company B. Valiente:
"In the production Breath we are confronted with the sanctioned body. The image of the body and mind, fenced by borders, robbed of fundamental rights to movement and freedom. Company B. Valiente first performed the production for prisoners at Ila prison, people who are in such a situation, with categorical sentences and withdrawn liberty to move freely.
Gunhild Bjørnsgaard and director and dramaturge Marcèlino Martin Valiente examine the theme of freedom of expression in the company's most recent production. The performances have taken place in different contexts, such as prisons and churches. This way the discussion is expanded into embracing new sides of the society's cold gagging of thoughts and actions.Beside a prison's tangible guardianship.
One needs one's breath to find strength against apathy and resignation. The hindrances there are as the raw and desperate movements of the dancers, the prisoners have interpreted in the direction of withdrawal symptoms, as when craving amphetamine. The reflections are many and touch by the experiences and memories of the audience. The spastic choreography may express the insecure, frightened and denied, shut-in aggression as the reason to the bad, a sign of sanity in the battle against the same. In this the breath is a factor."
