In an info leaflet about Havets barn* (Child of the Ocean) Kalebass produksjoner writes among other things the following:
"Havets barn is based on a legend from Zanzibar, about the young girl Firdusa who one day becomes an orphan, for next to be expelled from her village.
Nobody wants any contact with Firdusa, until the day she gets a calabash with honey, and with it, the ability to make all the people who taste the honey happy.
But what is happiness, really? What does it take to become happy? And what happens if one becomes too happy?"
