The summer of 2010Samovarteateret AKA The Samovar Theatre AKA The Samovarsent playwright and director Franzisca Aarflot on a journey in the region near Norway's borders. Along went the Russian filmmakerSergey Zhigaltsov, the recognised Sami composer and musician Johan Sara Jr, Bjarge Schwenke Fors, who was working on his doctorate, and the theatre ensemble.
The journey became meetings with people and their stories.
The artists shared some moments of the reality of the people they met. The reality created fiction and the fiction became the performance Radio Barents 111.
Radio Barents 111 is a performance about a radio station near the border, broadcasting in five languages, to listeners in three countries.
In many ways Radio Barents 111 is a response to the dream about collaboration across cultures and country borders in the Barents Region.
The performance starts with a short interview with the father of the Barents cooperation - Thorvald Stoltenberg. Next the road goes to a documentary reality, eventually turning into fiction.
With warmth and humour a diversity of characters is described, people who in different ways fight for their dreams - and who, in a surprising manner, win victories.
Radio Barents 111 is conveyed through film, different languages, dance, music and actors from the Barents Region.
