In the Oktoberdans program 1999 the following is written about Lamont Earth Observatory by Sarah Chase:

"Toronto based Sarah Chase's father dedicated his life to marine geology, and her new production Lamont Earth Observatory is inspired by her father's lectures about continental drift and eruptions underseas. Sarah, who often joined her father in his excursions to the ocean, was strongly influenced by his lectures about the world and the creation of the continents.

As an adult she recently found a box filled of Kodak Super-8 film in her parents basement. The film shows with little Chase by the water, moving her arms at great speed, but without the body control of the dancer she has become.

Onstage Chase uses what her father told her about the push and pull of the surface of the Earth, combining this with the spontaneous movement material of herself in the home movie."
