Joystick

In the program of Oktoberdans 1999 the following, among other things, was written about Joystick by Demodans:

"Joystick is the fifth production by Demodans, in which choreographer Eva-Cecilie Richardsen, videographer HC Gilje and the techno/ambient band SubGud create a new, image-conjuring and explosive concert performance.

The collaboration from Bøffel* (98) and Super G (97) is developed in a clear, at times brutal hybrid of music, dance and video. The theme revolves around ideas about prostheses as links between people and the longing for what they replace.

Joystick is nostalgia conveyed through modern expressions."

Demodans had made the productions Blott* (98) and Punch-drunk (99) in addition to the already mentioned, plus the commissioned work Deliver Me (for the opening of Momentum, 1998).

With Joystick Demodans aimed to take use of the performance potential of digital video technology, for the purpose of an active relationship between videography and dancers.

Demodans was selected to participate in a Norwegian art mustering in Frankfurt, Germany.

*Demodans used the Norwegian-language titles for these productions when performing abroad as well. Bøffel means Buffalo, whereas Blott has a double meaning; it can be an adverb meaning simply/purely/only, or it can be a verb encouraging a person to reveal or expose oneself.
