In the info leaflet METTE EDVARDSEN >PROJECTS 2002-2010 the following is written about The long piece:

"The beach is a place where mass choreography is always already happening, to be watched and to be experienced. For Dansand! a mass choreography will be created within the vastness of this scenery, following the duration of the tides, from low tide to high tide.

A group of 30 volunteers creates a piece during a short workshop, directed by Christine De Smedt and Mette Edvardsen, assisted by Lies Vanborm and Lilia Mestre. The choreography unfolds during six hours along the entire beach of Oostende. The 60 performers migrate on the beach, measuring space and time, build sand constructions, appear and disappear as a group, create walking patterns, construct landscapes, play with distance, zooming in and out along the horizon. The audience is invited to watch the performance from close or far, to leave and to come back, to join a picnic, to take a rest in the sand, to change perspectives, to go for a swim, to look from the other side."
