Matakrobaten* (The Food Acrobat)

Matakrobaten* (The Food Acrobat) by The Stage Company is interactive musical theatre combining acting and live music. The Stage Company merges artistic statements and messages into a whole. The company wishes to visualise that theatre and music can be natural, everyday, obvious ingredients in daily life in general and learning processes in particular.

In Matakrobaten the children are taken along on a theatrical madcap journey with moves, rhymes, rhythms and songs. Underway the actors and the children reflect over what they eat – and what others eat. And how they move – and others move. What is smart and what is stupid?

Felix wants to play football. But Finken doesn’t feel like joining. He wants to sit inside playing his superhero game. All of a sudden the food acrobat Matakrobaten shows up, a live, real superhero! Finken is given superpowers by Matakrobaten – aided by super carrot and super juice (dead ringers for ordinary carrot and juice). Due to this Finken gets out of his chair and joins the superhero in his ideas. But where did Felix go?

Matakrobaten was made in collaboration between jesters, public authorities and private businesses: The county doctor of Vest-Agder approached The Stage Company in January 2004 with a wish for a production for children about a balanced diet and movement. The production became a reality because the county doctor contributed knowledge about health,  The Stage Company contributed knowledge about performing arts, and Norwegian Directorate of Health and the dairy group TINE contributed financial resources.
