About 1534 by Showcase Beat Le Mot the following was written in the program of Black Box Teater:
"The year is 1534. Society is shaken by major shifts and the Christian west is haunted by fear of death. The particular position of the planets at the time leads to collective panic. The Luther Bible, with reproductions of Apocalypse AKA Apocalypse with Pictures (a painting sequence, Sceneweb’s comment) by Dürer, is republished for the sake of letting thousands of illiterates get access to terrifying reading. Masses of people organise spontaneous performances with the apocalypse as a topic.
At the same time the German peasants try to get rid of old laws. They demand collectivism, equal rights and justice. Politically pursued radicals flee from all over Europe to Münster in Westphalia to realise the idea of a free society. They experiment with free love, polygamy, drugs, orgies, mystic rituals and ceremonies until the town is besieged by the troops of Bishop Franz von Waldeck. The revolutionary are executed, hung in iron baskets from the tower of the St. Lamberti church, as a warning to others.
The image of the Middle Ages is often conveyed as dark, filled with dangers, illness, superstition and certain evidence of God’s existence. Showcase Beat le Mot doubts this presentation and wants to bring light into the dark. Not just a few candles, but whole battalions of lamps, illuminating even the darkest corners. Hieronymus Bosch and Lucas Cranach are bathed in neon colours. The peasants overdose on vitamins to such a degree their urine glows. The workers produce gold from the simplest of raw materials, actually, such enormous amounts they can repair their streets with it. God takes to wearing sponsored designer clothes and Satan turns out to be such a bad singer everybody eventually reunites in agreement of having lived in terrible times."
