Sleeping? by Embla dance & theatre is a production by two friends and their adventures as one is staying the night at the other’s house. Music from Balkan, lullabies and newly composed music accompanies the danced sleepover with a pillow fight, bed acrobatics, snoring symphonies and even a heavy eyelid. All of it consists of simple everyday situations children can easily recognise, but it has been elevated to imaginative art of movement.
Embla dance & theatre describes the production in the following manner: "Creatures made of sheets and blankets, pillow-fights, feather-rains and a lot of joy. Finally in the twilight of magic the Sandman puts the two friends to sleep."
Every performance is ended with a dance workshop with the kids.
The production Sleeping? was rewarded with the children’s audience award in the category 2-7 years in the Swedish Biennial of Young People’s Performing Arts in 2006.
Sleeping? was presented in collaboration with The Cultural Rucksack in Trøndelag and The National Touring Network for Performing Arts.
Sleeping? was supported by Arts Council Norway and the municipality of Trondheim.
