Vilja

It's New Years Eve and time for new beginnings. The old life gives way to the new and you can start afresh. But for Vilja this is the night when everything goes wrong. "Vilja" is a poetic, fragmented and truly original theatre-concert, trying to speak about poverty in rich Norway today.

It has been raining all through Christmas, and Vilja's dad is getting worried about the bears in Russia. They can't hibernate because it's too warm. Vilja is sixteen and living with her father since her mother died when she was little. Her father is long-term unemployed and is forced to beg the welfare system for money. This affects Vilja in many different ways. Like when all her classmates go to the Czech Republic for a school trip and she has to stay home because her father can't afford the downpayment. And when Vilja needs a new dress for the New Years Eve - party, all her father can spare is a meer two hundred kroner. "What kind of dress do you think you can get for 200 kroner" asks Vilja, and continues:" Why can't I own something nice, for once?" And then Vilja does something wrong...

"Vilja" is a fragmented and wondering theatre-concert where both music and video connects the scenes, but also functions as an storytelling element in its own right. Blendwerk does not try to answer the questions surrounding poverty. Rather the group tries to ask questions in the hope that the audience will seek to answer them for themselves.
