In The Yellow Wallpaper by Oberon Teater we have been taken back to the last change of century (approximately 1900) and the audience meets a woman placed in a large, airy room to heal from "temporary nervous depressions – a hint of hysteria". The room is covered with ugly yellow wallpaper she immediately begins to hate. With little else to do she starts studying the pattern, and soon she discovers a little creature behind the wallpaper, trying to find its way out.
The main character in The Yellow Wallpaper by Oberon Teater exists in two worlds, one concrete, one metaphysical – in the latter the wallpaper becomes alive. She loses her usual understanding of what is real. Hence the expression switches between the naturalist in its dialogues/monologues and the purely visual – expressed through video projections, sound images and choreography.
The Yellow Wallpaper was supported by Arts Council Norway, the county of Østfold, the municipality of Halden and the Freedom of Expression Foundation Fritt Ord.

"...Cecilie Jørstad has grown great. Great enough she will be able to convince an even more eclectic audience when The Yellow Wallpaper opens in Oslo Wednesday September 26. Competent Kristin J. Søraune invited confidence as the sister in law Jennie, while able Daniel Karlsson managed to give life to the husband John. The stage design? I found it excellent. Further director Birgitte Strid deserves praise. She has translated and adapted the play, and considered that this was ideas on paper, she has managed to visualise action and content in a splendid way. The video design by Kathrine Riise Varadaraj is in itself reason enough to attend the theatre this weekend."
