Haíresis
Film version
Haíresis. Film version (2020) is a movie production by Ida Løken Valkeapää. Haíresis is about the witch processes in the county of Finnmark during the 1600es. Haíresis is a filmed excerpt from the planned performing arts production by the same title. The performing arts production was meant to open in June 2020, but the opening was postponed to 2021 due to the Corona crisis.
Haíresis (αἵρεσις) is an ancient Greek word meaning to take and receive, or to choose, a purpose, a system of ideas or principles (political, philosophical or religious). In a Christian context, the word is used about "heresy leading to doom".

At the webpage of Haíresis, the following, among other things, is written:
"Finnmark during the 1600es. The population numbers approximately 3000 inhabitants. 135 are accused of witchcraft. 91 are executed. 77 women and 14 men were sentenced to fire and bonfire. This is the minimum. There were likely more of them. The witch processes in Finnmark was among the most brutal in Europe. What happened?
We first planned to make a large outdoors concert performance. A storyteller, a singer, a choir and an installation of fire and ice onstage. In an electronic landscape of sound. Economy limited us, and we modified the plans. We were in the process of developing an indoors performance with sound design and video of choir and ice and fire. The opening was meant to take place during Arctic Arts Festival, on Saint John's Eve 2020. Then came Covid-19, and it all stopped. The opening is postponed to 2021. In the meantime, we try to create a film work.
April 18-20 2020 we had a workshop in Tromsø, to transform our material into film. The festival Vårscenefest is digitised into Vårskjermfest this year, and it has provided us with the opportunity to record a pilot. We show this to the world for the first time May 2, as a part of the festival program.
We plan to create a filmic work consisting of several episodes. Each episode will be an independent unit. Together, they will make up a larger whole.
