The Snuff Grinders
By fusing traditional Norwegian Halling dance, Brazilian capoeira and breakdance, dance company Frikar created The Snuff Grinders; a tour de force of genre-defying acrobatic stunts.
The Snuff Grinders was a melting pot of differing dance styles from two continents, united by a single element; the head-spin, or, as the Halling dancers would describe the move some hundred years ago: the snuff grinder. Hence the title of the show; The Snuff Grinders.

Both prior to and after The Snuff Grinders Frikar has managed to revitalize the image of Norwegian folk dance in the minds of the general public through an athletic and youthful approach to the traditional dance forms.
With a musical backdrop composed by fiddler Andreas Ljones, The Snuff Grinders featured stunts with spontaneous and playful improvisation backed by an eclectic stew of musical styles that included traditional Norwegian and Brazilian folk music as well as (Baile-) funk, hip-hop and rock.
The Snuff Grinders by Frikar was supported by the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs/MFA (travel grant/performing arts).
