Lone Twin/Lone Twin Theatre

Lone Twin is the name of an English artist duo consisting of Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters. Lone Twin has since the start in 1997 produced a series of works, mainly within the genre of performance art, among which several are site-specific works. In 2006 Whelan and Winters expanded Lone Twin with the addition Lone Twin Theatre, for which they are both artistic directors, but do not perform onstage.

Active since 1997 Lone Twin has performed works across Europe, North America and Australia. The collaborative project, led by Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters, deals specifically with ideas of textuality, physicality, place, travel and orientation. In working between contemporary theatrical, performance, live art and dance contexts Lone Twin is committed to making entertaining and publicly accessible works.

In 2003 Lone Twin was awarded an Arts Council of England International Fellowship at Kunstlerhaus Mousonturm, Frankfurt. Other commissioning partners include KunstenFESTIVALdesArts, Steirischer Herbst and the Melbourne International Festival.

In 2006 Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters established the theatre ensemble Lone Twin Theatre as an addition to their company Lone Twin (1997).

Lone Twin Theatre made its debut with the critically acclaimed performance Alice Bell in KustenFESTIVALdesArts. The next production within an announced trilogy, Daniel Hit By A Train, had its worldwide premiere during Wiener Festwochen. In 2010 Lone Twin Theatre opened The festival, the third and last chapter of the so-called The Catastrophe Trilogy.
