In 1998 tanzhaus nrw moved into a former tram depot in Düsseldorf and since then it has developed into an international centre for contemporary dance with two stages and eight rehearsal studios.
The 4000 square meters are home to a performance location, a production site and a training centre, all under one roof with over 3000 visitors each week.

tanzhaus nrw evolved from Die Werkstatt, which was founded in 1978, the house now presents the full aesthetic and cultural bandwidth of contemporary dance.
The year-round season with more than 200 performances includes various program concepts in concentrated festivals, thematically motivated series, international guest performances and experimental platforms. A special emphasis is placed on promoting selected choreographers within the context of co-productions and residency programs.
As a training centre, the house caters to beginners, advanced and professional dancers with more than 300 courses and workshops offerings per week.
