Danspace Project presents twenty-five to thirty weeks of contemporary dance each season. Selected local, national and international artists are provided technical, promotional, and front-of-house support.
Artists chosen by Danspace are generally choreographers who have been seen live by the staff and with whom relationships have developed over the course of several years.
St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery has been an important site for contemporary performance events since the 1920s.
Danspace Project, founded in 1974, is one of the Church's arts programs, along with the Poetry Project and the Ontological-Hysteric Theater. In its primary function, the Church is home to an active Episcopalian community of worship.
Due to the atypical nature of the performance space, certain guidelines must be followed by all who use Danspace Project’s facilities.
