Tjarnarbíó
Tjarnarbíó was built in 1913 and was operating as a freezing plant until 1942 when it was converted into a cinema. Since 1995 the independent theatre association Sjálfstæðu leikhúsin, SL, has undertaken to operate Tjarnarbíó on behalf of the city of Reykjavik.
Tjarnarbíó is a multi-tasked venue hosting theatre, movies and concerts. The building has been rented out for all sorts of activities. Mostly professional, but also amateur theatre groups, schools, student exhibitions and concerts.
