Bergen Theatre Association

Bergen Theatre Association AKA Brgen Teaterforening was established December 8 1872 to secure a Norwegian, national venue of theatre in Bergen. Among the first leaders of the association were Christian Michelsen and Johan Mowinckel.

Bergen Theatre Association still is active and since 1983 the annual theatre awards ceremony during which the two most important theatre awards in Bergen are presented has been an important event: Pernillestatuetten (the Pernille Award) honours the best performing effort whereas Rampeløkten honours the most exciting or innovative theatre project of the year, or it honours active work within the theatre community. The association’s Publikumspris (The Audience’s Award) goes to a performing artist from Bergen/Hordaland for his/her efforts in the past year. The latter award was first presented February 6 2010.
