Mother and Me and Men

Arne Lygre (born 1968) made his debut as a playwright in 1998 with the play Mother and Me and Men. The first production of Mother and Me and Men was staged at Rogaland Theatre 1998. After this it has been produced among other places by Masken Theatre, Denmark (2000), Addition Théâtre, France (2006/2007) Badisches Staatstheater, Germany (2007/2008) and Agder Teater/by D-MOOR Company (2009).

Mother and Me and Men is about three generations of women and their men. The story, from its first to its last line, ranges over a period of 60 years. It is quick-paced and the many leaps in time is an image on how fast time goes by, how life passes by and how we succeed or fail in grabbing it.

Mother and Me and Men is about lust, desire and longing. Suddenly it can switch from moving moments to dark farce. It's about life, death and love - in a way aiming to be delicate, poetic and laughter-provoking at the same time.

It has been translated into Danish as Mor og mig og mænd, and French as Maman et moi et les hommes, and into German as Mama und Ich und Männer.

The play has published in Norwegian (Aschehoug, 1998) and French(Les Solitaires Intempestifs, in translation by Terje Sinding, 2000).
