Henry VI
Henry VI is a play by William Shakespeare, written in three parts. It has been translated into the Norwegian as Henrik VI.
The first part was probably written last. In its day it was called The First Part of Henry the Sixth, and it was performed for the first time in 1592, thus most likely written the same year or the year before. The second part, most likely originally performed as The First Part of the Contention of the Two Famous Houses of York and Lancaster with the Death of the Good Duke Humphrey, was probably written first, in 1590 or 1591, whereas the third part, at first most likely performed under the title The True Tragedy of Richard, Duke of York, and the Good King Henry the Sixth, with the whole Contention between the two houses Lancaster and York, was most likely written between the other two parts, that is, sometime in the period between 1590 and 1592.
In the Folio edition of Shakespeare's plays, published in 1623, the three parts are called 1 Henry VI, 2 Henry VI and 3 Henry VI respectively, placed in chronology due to the narrative, not due to writing.
Arthur O. Sandved has translated all three parts into the Norwegian.
