The Public AKA The Audience is a play by the Spanish playwright Federico García Lorca.
The Public AKA The Audience was staged for the first time 50 years after Lorca's death in 1936. Until then the play had been kept hidden for the public. The Public AKA The Audienceis a surrealist experiment come to expression and it is a tribute to love between men.
The play got its Norwegian premiere when Det Motsatte Prosjekt staged it in 1996.
The original title in Spanish is El Público. It has been translated into English both as The Public and as The Audience.
