Marit Østbye

Marit Østbye (born November 27 1948) is a Norwegian actress who has worked for a number of theatres, including The National Stage, The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation's TV drama division, The National Theatre, Rogaland Theatre and The Norwegian Touring Theatre.

Marit Østbye was nominated for The Hedda Award 2016 in the best leading actress category for the role of Helen in Absence (Oslo Nye Teater (Oslo New Theatre) 2015).

Marit Østbye also has taken part in some film and TV productions. Among other things, she covered the role of Gaia in the Norwegian science fiction Blindpassasjer (literally: Hidden Passenger) in 1978, and in 1988 the leading role in the film Fengslende dager for Christina Berg (literally: Captivating days for Christina Berg). Her participation in the TV series Soria Moria can also be mentioned.

Østbye had her stage debut in 1971 in Helge Hagerup's Hvem har det verst?* (Who Suffers the Worst?) at The National Theatre. During her career she has carried several leading parts in classic plays by Ibsen and Shakespeare, including Nora in A Doll's House (The Norwegian Touring Theatre 1989), Rita Allmers in Little Eyolf (The Norwegian Touring Theatre 1991), the title role of Hedda Gabler (The Norwegian Touring Theatre 1995) and Helene Alving in Ghosts (The Norwegian Touring Theatre 2005).
