After her debut Gyrid Axe Øvsteng has written the plays Tightrope (2002), The Bus (2006), Evasion (2006), Really (2007), Nattsvermar* (Moth) (2010). Her plays have been presented at The National Theatre, The Norwegian Theatre, Det Åpne Teater (The Open Theatre), at Ibsen Theatre in Skien and at Kazantsev Centre for Contemporary Staging and Drama in Moscow, plus by independent companies.

Gyrid Axe Øvsteng was nominated for the Norwegian Ibsen Award in 2008 for Really.

She made her book debut with the children's image book Finn* (Find)! in 2009.

Gyrid Axe Øvsteng lives in Skien, Norway.
