There is often vulnerability in her work, the melancholy characterising her first stories makes a keynote for the rest of her authorship, also in her latest novels: Lost love, unhappy marriages. Ideologically Alvilde Prydz is related to Camilla Collett, but the descriptions of wild girls unwinding with nature represent a vision of an independent type of woman. Alvilde Prydz was debilitated by illness and poor economy, but due to iron will she completed her author project, characterised by the limited conditions for women.
