About Samuel Beckett

Samuel Beckett was an Irish-born playwright, writer and translator who moved to Paris and became a French citizen. He wrote in English and French and often translated his own works.

He is best known for his play Waiting for Godot (originally written in French under the title of En Attendant Godot and translated into English by the playwright himself).

He won The Nobel Prize in Literature in 1969.
