Peter Wessel Zapffe

Peter Wessel Zapffe (born in Tromsø in 1899, dead in Asker in 1990) was a Norwegian philosopher, writer and mountaineer.

His doctoral thesis was called On the tragic and was completed in 1941. Unusual for a philosophy work it has later been republished several times.

In addition to philosophical books Peter Wessel Zapffe wrote poetry, plays and stories. His humour work Vett og uvett (literally: Sense and the senseless) (1976) is by many called the Northern Norwegian Humour Bible.
