Hans Christian Ostrø

Hans Christian Ostrø (1968-1995) was a Norwegian theatre worker.

Ostrø was in India to study Indian theatre when he was abducted by the Islamic guerrilla group Al-Faran in Kashmir July 4 1995, together with the Americans Donald Hutchings and John Childs, the Brits Keith Magan and Paul Wells and the German Dirk Hasert.

Childs managed to escape and got away, whereas Ostrø was found decapitated August 13 1995. The other four have yet to be found.

A memorial award in the name of Hans Christian Ostrø was established in his memory. The award goes to an artist who has distinguished him/herself in building bridges between cultures, or to individuals who has made an effort against violence, terrorism and broken human rights.
