Peter Shaffer

Peter Levin Shaffer (born 1926, dead 2016) was a British playwright. He made his debut with Five Finger Exercise (1958). His further plays include The Royal Hunt of the Sun (1964), Black Comedy (1965) and Equus (1973).

He also wrote movie scripts, including Amadeus (1984), based on a legend of Mozart and his rival relationship to Antonio Salieri, the comedy Lettice and Lovage (1987) and the blood-dripping drama The Gift of the Gorgon (1992). 

He was a professor in modern theatre at Oxford University.
