Erik Stifjell ruined his hobby when he decided to study percussion at the conservatory of Tromsø. During his percussion studies Stifjell also studied at The Academy of Music, Aalborg and composition with Jørgen Mortensen (VMK - Academy of Music and Music Communication, Esbjerg).
During the period 2000-2007 Erik Stifjell worked as a freelance percussionist, composer and teacher. Gradually his 'composer-part' became more important. In 2007 Stifjell decided to move to The Hague, The Netherlands to study composition at The Royal Conservatory, where he today studies for a Master's Degree. Erik Stifjell studies with Yannis Kyriakides and Gilius van Bergeijk.
Erik Stifjell has managed to compose around 40 works, including instrumental and electronic music for different ensembles, film and theatre. As a composer Stifjell is interested in organic forms in music besides searching for alternative ways to integrate electronic instruments. Erik Stifjell is also the co-founder of 'KontAk festival' and the international composer's collective 'lüdkamer'.
Erik has now a new hobby
