I Was a Stranger and You Took Me In er en stedsspesifikk installasjon som utforsker Black Box-rommet som et performativt element i samspill med lyd og lys.

Dialogen mellom disse materialene inviterer publikum til å oppleve at rommet endrer skala og proporsjon. Black Box-rom blir ofte sett på og brukt som et abstrakt og nøytralt rom. Men hvor nøytralt kan egentlig et Black Box-rom være? Bærer ikke rommet med seg alle minnene og erfaringene fra tidligere forestillinger innenfor veggene?

Som et alternativt perspektiv er vi interessert i å se Black Box som et manipulerende rom som fremtvinger autonomi, formorientering og en isolert publikumsopplevelse.

I Was a Stranger and You Took Me In is a site-specific installation that explores Black Box space as a performative element in interaction with sound and light.

The dialog between these materials invites the audience to experience the space changing in scale and proportion. Black Boxes are generally seen and used as an abstract and neutral space. But how neutral can a Black Box really be? Doesn’t the space carry all the memories and experiences from the past performances within its walls? As alternative perspective we are interested in seeing Black Box as a manipulative space that forces autonomy, form orientation and isolated spectatorship.
