AUDITORIUM

Solveig Ylva Dagsdottir inviterer deg til «AUDITORIUM», hennes avsluttende MA-presentasjon av scenografisk forskning og avgangsproduksjon i Fredrikstad. I dette arbeidet samarbeider hun med Anna Utermøhl Lund i Auditorium A-421 ved Høgskolen i Østfold, campus Fredrikstad. Sammen utforsker de iscenesettelsen av tvetydighet som en måte å frigjøre potensialet i det tomme rommet på. Publikum inviteres inn i en forelesningslignende situasjon som tar konteksten og situasjonen i dette spesifikke rommet som utgangspunkt.

Grunnlaget for utforskningene hennes handler om det skjulte og det undertrykte i omgivelsene rundt oss. Intensjonen er å avdekke usynlige makt- og undertrykkelsesstrukturer som påvirker vår oppfatning av rom. I hennes forskning forstås intethet som deler av rommet som ikke umiddelbart er synlige for øyet, og som ofte undertrykkes eller overses når vi tenker på hva et rom består av.

For å forstå potensialet i denne tomheten eller intetheten har hun undersøkt hvordan materialet i denne «intetheten» oppfører seg eller handler annerledes enn det synlige, og hva dette kan la oss erfare. Intethetens materiale ønsker å bevege seg. Det er ikke stille eller begrenset til bestemte bevegelser, i motsetning til det synlige. Ved å trekke paralleller til «skitt-teorier» og ideer om tabu fra Mary Douglas og Sara Ahmed, utforsker hun om potensialet i «det skitne» og «det tomme» kan brukes til å skape scenografi.

Hennes forståelse er at den konstante transformasjonen av materiale – særlig det urene eller skjulte – skaper en romlig erfaring. Tvetydighet gir en måte å utforske denne transformasjonen på.

Solveig Ylva Dagsdottir invites you to "AUDITORIUM", her final MA scenography research presentation and graduation production in Fredrikstad. In this work, she is working together with Anna Utermøhl Lund in Auditorium A-421 at Høgskolen I Østfold, campus Fredrikstad. Together, they explore the staging of ambiguity as a way to release the potential of the empty space. The audience is invited into a lecture-like setting that takes the context and situation of this specific space as its starting point. 

The basis of her explorations concerns the hidden and repressed in the environment around us. The intent is to uncover invisible structures of power and oppression that play into our perception of space. In her research, nothingness is understood as parts of space that are not immediately perceivable to the eye and are often suppressed or overlooked when we think of what a space consists of. 

To understand the potential within this emptiness or nothingness, she has been looking at how the material within the ‘nothingness’ behaves or act differently to the visible, and what it by this allow us to experience. The matter of nothingness wants to move. It isn't still and restricted to certain movements, in contrary to the visible. Drawing parallels to 'dirt theories' and ideas of taboo from Mary Douglas and Sara Ahmed, she explores whether the potential of 'dirt' and 'the empty' can be used to create scenography. 

Her understanding is that the constant transformation of material—particularly the unclean or hidden—creates a spatial experience. Ambiguity provides a way to explore this transformation. 

GENERAL INFO: 

During spring 2024, the graduating students from MA in Scenography will present their final production. In NTA’s study plan for MA in Scenography, this is the artistic production component of their Master's Thesis, and it's executed and/or presented to the public in its final form in the fourth semester at an agreed external or internal exhibition/performance venue. This spring we will have three final MA in Scenography productions. They will be presented in different locations in Fredrikstad, and you are welcome to experience all worlds for free. 

This production is part of §112 Fredrikstad. §112 Fredrikstad is a new art festival, which over four months will explore whether we are good ancestors. The backdrop is the Norwegian constitution's environmental paragraph, and through cultural experiences, conversations, public meetings and debate, §112 will present questions regarding climate issues to the public in a new way.
