Crave#2

Crave#2 (2015) is a theatre production by Theater Beast, a performance lecture based on a concept by Eja Due. The production was performed as a visiting performance in Bergen city centre during Bergen International Festival 2018.

The production is performed in two versions: As a one-on-one encounter in which each spectator is alone with the performer, and as a version for a small group of people together. It is performed in Danish.

The company recommends a lower age limit of 17 years for the production.

Bergen International Festival also arranges a public conversation about sex work and prostitution with Eja Due in discussion with scholars and representatives for Norwegian organisations working within the field. This conversation is to take place at the auditorium of Litteraturhuset.

At the website of Bergen International Festival the following, among other things, is written about Crave#2:

"- I challenge you to tell the difference between a naked prostitute and any other naked woman.

With these words, Danish artist Eja Due puts her own body on the line in the Performance Lecture Crave#2 – an interactive and extremely intimate performance based on in-depth research on prostitution in the Nordic countries and Europe, Bergen included.

The performance can be experienced in two formats during the Festival: in a one-on-one encounter with Due, where one audience member at a time is invited into the private, intimate room where prostitution takes place, or as part of a small group.

On a site in the centre of Bergen, Due brings the performance and discussion out in the public space where our normative conclusions often collide with the reality the sex workers are living in. The artist asks: What are the differences and similarities between herself and the prostitute? In Crave#2, the audience gets to participate in the debate about paid sex, prostitution, and sugar dating.

During the last four years, Eja has followed the political debate closely and talked to a wide range of sex workers in Denmark and other countries, participating in an ongoing dialogue with researchers, debaters, and organisations working within the field."
